Deaths of 2 RMG workers spark protest in Malibagh

DHAKA:  Garment workers staged demonstration by vandalizing, and torching vehicles, blocking the DIT roadof city’s Malibagh following deaths of two fellow workers in a road crash. 

A CNG filling station on DIT road was set to fire at 6:30 pm on Tuesday (January 1).

The agitating workers started occupying the road after the accident had happened around 1:30 pm.

“We’re holding a peaceful demonstration over deaths of two workers, but police launched a baton charge at us,” Shahida, a RMG worker,” told Banglanews.

Protesters demanded justice of the road crash as well as of police’ baton charge.

Speaking to Banglanews, Biplob Kumar Sarkar, Deputy Commissioner of Tejgaon zone said: “The bus owner and the driver will be brought to justice. Besides, allegation of police’ baton charge will be investigated accompanied by realization of legal action.”

Two RMG workers –identified as Meem, 13, and Nahida Parvin Poly, 19, — were crushed to death as a bus of ‘Suprabhat Paribahan’ ran over them on DIT roadof Malibagh.
